The skin plays an incredibly important role in your overall health. Not only is it the largest organ (yes, it’s an organ—weird, right?), but it is also solely responsible for protecting your body from harsh outside elements, controlling water loss and retention, and regulating overall body temperature. The skin also has the important job of excreting toxins from the body, and it can be a good indicator of something being amiss in the body. Usually, when something seems to be wrong with the skin, it means that something isn’t working properly inside the body. You may seek care from a dermatologist or allergist, depending on the skin issue you’re facing. But sometimes, the external issue needs to be handled at its root cause, which is internal. The power of a chiropractic adjustment can be incredibly effective in relieving common skin problems, from acne to allergic rashes to eczema and more. Dr. Grant Lisetor at Greater Life Chiropractic in Charlotte can answer any questions you have about skin issues, skin health, and optimizing your overall health.
Acne and Pimples
The third cervical spinal nerve is directly connected to the health and proper function of everything relating to the face, mouth, and ears. This nerve runs through the C3, which is the third cervical vertebra, located in the upper neck. When there is an interruption in this nerve due to a misalignment of the C3, individuals can experience neuralgia or neuritis in severe cases, and in less severe cases, they can face pimples, acne, or eczema.
Additionally, the eleventh thoracic spinal nerve is linked to the function of the adrenal glands, which are responsible for producing and regulating important hormones. If you have a misalignment of your eleventh thoracic vertebra which houses this nerve, you may experience dysfunction of the adrenal glands, which can lead to acne and pimples, among other issues.
When these vertebrae are even the slightest bit shifted, twisted, or turned, they can cause interruptions in the messages sent from the brain to the various systems of the body. When these messages are disrupted, problems occur inside the body which sometimes manifest externally, like on the skin, particularly in the form of acne or pimples. While changing your diet, improving skincare routines, and drinking more water can play a large role in minimizing acne and pimple problems, chiropractic care can help improve skin health as well.
Eczema, Allergic Rashes, and Other Skin Problems
Just as the spine’s misalignment can impact the skin in the form of acne, other skin problems can arise due to misalignments in other areas of the spine. Sometimes the subluxation (or misalignment) causes a secondary problem internally, and the skin issue is actually the third or fourth issue due to the misalignment. Correcting the spinal subluxation can bring about healing to a variety of issues, including eczema, allergic rashes, viral skin problems, and more. Even if your skin problem is clearly from something external, such as poison ivy or other form of contact dermatitis, chiropractic care will allow your body to heal and recover faster to bring your skin back to full health quickly.
