Erectile dysfunction is not something that most people are comfortable talking about. However, it’s a big problem in today’s society, and it can have a significant negative impact on the lives of those affected by it. For men around age 40, about 40% of them will experience some form of erectile dysfunction. As men age, that number increases. By age 70, around 70% of men are suffering from erectile dysfunction. While medication and treatments have been around for years to help men with this problem, groundbreaking studies have shown that chiropractic care can be extremely effective in reducing issues with erectile dysfunction. Chiropractic is a safe, natural, and effective way to improve the livelihood of those struggling, and your local Charlotte chiropractor, Dr. Grant Lisetor, can help you and yours overcome the challenge of ED.

What Causes Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to develop and maintain an erection. Sometimes, it is a singular condition, meaning that it isn’t connected to any other physical problems. Other times, however, erectile dysfunction is caused by another condition, disease, or illness. Heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, sleep disorders, tobacco use, alcoholism, and more can contribute to erectile dysfunction.

At its core, however, nerve inflammation is the root cause of erectile dysfunction. The nerves that run into the genital area are connected to the spinal cord and are controlled by the central nervous system. If there is any sort of misalignment in the spine, that can impede blood flow and brain-body communication through the nerves that lead to the genitals. This interruption brings dysfunction and can cause ED and other problems in the region.

Additionally, poor central nervous system health can contribute to psychological issues, including those that impact ED. Being able to get excited and aroused, for example, stem from a psychological trigger, which can also be negatively impacted by a misalignment of the spine. Depression, anxiety, stress, and mental health concerns are all linked to spinal health as well, and they can all play a role in causing or worsening erectile dysfunction.

Why Chiropractic Is the Best Solution for ED

Because chiropractic aims to correct the root cause of all nervous system dysfunction, it is an excellent method for improving erectile dysfunction. It can not only decrease physical issues related to the condition, but it can also improve psychological concerns that contribute to it and can minimize symptoms altogether.

Studies are ongoing regarding the efficacy of chiropractic care for treating ED, but one study from a few years ago has shown extremely promising results. A 53-year-old man began chiropractic care for long-term lower back pain. Within just a few weeks, he saw substantial improvement in his back pain as well as his erectile dysfunction.
