We live in a fast-paced world that is used to quick fixes, instant gratification, and immediate results. It can be hard to slow down and be patient, even when we know patience is vital. Some of the best things in life are slow-going and take time, such as waiting for the birth of a new baby or a relationship developing into something special. Even tangible things take time: the purchase of a home, the growth of a garden, or the building of a business. We know patience is important in so many areas of life, but why are we so quick to try to hurry up our health? Just like many other things, healing takes time. Achieving true health and optimal function in our bodies can be a lengthy process, especially if we are a little late to the party. If we’ve spent our whole lives following traditional methods of “healthcare” and still find ourselves struggling to find real health and healing, it will take time to reverse those many years without real health, and we owe it to ourselves to be patient with the process.

Why Does It Take So Long?

Many people feel like one visit to a chiropractor should be enough to stop their back pain permanently and reverse any damage that was done due to a misalignment. Unfortunately, it’s not that quick most of the time, but for good reason. Think about how long you’ve had a spinal misalignment. It could have occurred years ago or even decades ago. Your muscles have adapted to the misalignment, your entire body is used to how it feels to have that misalignment, and all your body’s systems are working as best they can, given the misalignment.

It took years for your body to get to the point it’s at, whether that’s chronic pain, intense dysfunction, or overall poor health. It will not be reversed in one day or with one adjustment. It took time for you to develop whatever ailments you’re dealing with, and it will take time for those ailments to be dealt with appropriately and for proper healing to take place.

Healing Is Worth the Wait

Although waiting patiently for true correction and real healing to take place can be difficult, it is well worth the wait. Instant fixes with the traditional medical model only cover up symptoms and delay the inevitable. It may feel nice to have that headache go away quickly with a pill or to not feel that knee pain anymore because of a shot, but that is not serving you well long-term. Those are Band-Aids on battle wounds, and they won’t do anything to truly alleviate the problem or get to its root cause.
