Posture Changes and Spinal Misalignments

Most people know that having good posture is important. But what happens when it’s painful to sit or stand upright and with good posture? Proper Alignment Is Vital for Proper Function

However, when even one vertebra is twisted, shifted, or turned just a tiny bit, the surrounding nerves can be pinched or have unnecessary pressure on them, which leads to those messages from the brain getting interrupted. This brings about miscommunications between the systems of the body and the brain, and it brings about dysfunction across the body.

The Causes of Misalignments

Spinal misalignments, or subluxations, can come from a number of different things. An injury, such as a car accident, fall, or sports injury can cause misalignments. Repetitive strain can also cause misalignments, such as sitting at a computer for many hours, staring down at a phone or tablet for too long, repeated motions due to a job or hobby, and the like. One form of repetitive strain includes poor posture, and this is one of the most common causes of misalignments. Whether you slept funny or hurt yourself, when your posture is incorrect, your muscles are forced to adapt. This not only causes muscle pain and changes in muscular balance across the body, but it also can bring about new subluxations or more severe misalignments. When these spinal imbalances remain for long periods of time and you continue to maintain poor posture on a regular basis, the misalignments further add to the poor posture and the problem only compounds on top of itself.
