Chiropractic Red Flag #2: Selling Supplements
Even if you consume an incredibly healthy and well-balanced diet, you likely are still missing out on some key nutrients that your body needs. Even if you are getting every vitamin, mineral, and nutrient that you need to live, additional supplements can offer a variety of benefits to your overall health. Some supplements target joint health, others focus on your skin, while still others impact your muscles. The number of supplements available are many, and the brands that create them are even more varied. Supplements, when taken correctly, can add a great deal to your overall wellness and quality of life.
So why are we saying that a chiropractor selling supplements isn’t okay? We’ve got a few reasons.
Area of Expertise
First of all, a chiropractor’s area of expertise is chiropractic, not supplementation. Yes, chiropractors take nutrition courses and they understand what your body needs to be healthy and thrive. But that does not make them experts in supplements. Honestly, it doesn’t even make them experts in diet, nutrition, vitamins, or anything of the sort. Chiropractors may have relative expertise in supplements, meaning they know more than your average person on the topic. But that does not qualify them to sell these products or even make official recommendations about what you should take.
A lot of chiropractors are extremely health conscious, and they have their own regimens of working out, eating well, and taking supplements. They know what works for them based on their own research and experiences, and they may offer suggestions about supplements to look into, vitamins to take, and so on. But a chiropractor is not an expert on supplements and therefore is not qualified to sell supplements.
Mission-Minded
At Greater Life Chiropractic, our doctors are mission-minded. This means they are zeroed in on their mission, and that is to bring chiropractic to the Charlotte area. If they were selling supplements, their mission would shift and their attention would be divided. If supplements became part of the care plan, people might experience lasting change in their health from chiropractic but instead give credit to a supplement. Hear this clearly: supplements can be good, but chiropractic is life-changing. Our mission is chiropractic.
Health-Focused or Income-Focused?
The best chiropractors will be focused on your health. They aren’t consumed with making more money or following the newest fad in business ownership. Our chiropractors at Greater Life Chiropractic spend every ounce of their energy in helping you improve and maintain your health through chiropractic. Many chiropractors who begin selling supplements are struggling to stay afloat financially or they want another income stream outside of adjusting. While diversifying isn’t a bad thing, shifting a health-focused business into an income-focused business is not great. If you visit a chiropractor who is pushing supplements, ask yourself why. Chiropractors should be more focused on providing value through health-giving adjustments than pushing pills like the pharmaceutical companies.
Here at Greater Life Chiropractic, we are on mission and focused on improving your health. Our doctors are principled chiropractors who don’t want to stray from their focus of telling the world about the benefits of chiropractic and bringing true health to the community.
